How to Get a Space-Saving 5-Piece Dining Room Set

If you don't have a large dining room or much free space in your open plan kitchen/dining room, then you might be struggling to find the right dining room set. For example, a 5-piece set might be the right size for your household or entertaining plans; however, you won't necessarily find it easy to source a set that fits into a smaller space.
You can find a set to fit if you can be flexible on how your dining table and seating works. Read on for some useful tips.
Table Tips
If you don't need to use a full 5-piece dining set every day, then you can free up more space by buying an extendable table. So, for example, you could buy a table that fits 2 or 3 people in its basic configuration. Once you open up its extension, it becomes big enough for 4 or more people.
This reduces the amount of space your set takes up most of the time. The table uses less space in its basic format. However, when you want to seat more people, you can move things around so that you can open up the table to make it bigger. You then switch it back when you're done.
Alternatively, you can find some larger tables to mount on walls. Here, the table sits in a frame on a wall when you aren't using it. When you want to use it, you clear the space under it and pull it down. This is a good option if you have an alternative place to eat most of the time, such as a kitchen island, and will only need to use a table occasionally.
Seating Tips
If you don't have a lot of free space, then you also need to find a smart seating solution. Chairs around a table can add to its footprint and make it too large for your available space.
You can buy chairs or even stools which slot completely under a table. They won't stick out around the table, so you get a more slimline solution. Switching some or all of your chairs for benches also works well. If you buy benches that fit under your table, then you get a more compact solution.
If you buy an extendable or wall-mounted table, then you still have to find room for chairs when you aren't using them. The easiest way to do this is to buy stackable chairs.
